PRESS RELEASE - April 30, 2007
In April 2007, PEG-BR purchased a large pool of equipment including 345 REF TEK 125A TEXAN Recorders and 60 Model 130-01/3 channel recorders and accessories from Refraction Technology.
This Geophysical equipment was purchased for the purpose of supporting research projects in Brazil. The idea was raised by scientists from several research institutions and universities such as MCT-ON, USP, UNB, UFRN, UNESP, UFOP, UERJ, UFF among others. These institutions belong to the Geotectonic Studies Network, which is sponsored by PETROBRÁS., the Brazilian oil company. The main areas of studies include the crustal and lithospheric structure of the South-American plate, the interaction of continental and ocean crusts and the tectonics of the basement related to the basins' evolution. PEG-BR has ordered Seismic Gravimetric and Magneto telluric equipment to begin the operation along with the REF TEK equipment. The pool of equipment will be installed in MCT-Observatrio Nacional premises, in Rio de Janeiro.
