REF TEK Strong Motion Products combine the Third Generation Broadband Seismic Recorder (REF TEK 130-01) and an advanced low-noise force-feedback accelerometer (REF TEK 131A-3) housed in an anodized aluminum instrument case with single point mounting and 3-point leveling.

The 130-ANSS/02 is designed specifically to meet the USGS Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) specifications for strong motion reference stations for deployment in urban areas. The mission of ANSS is to provide accurate and timely data and information products for seismic events, including their effects on buildings and structures and employing modern monitoring methods and technologies. The four main goals of the ANSS system are to establish and maintain an advanced infrastructure for seismic monitoring throughout the United States; continuously monitor earthquakes and other seismic events; thoroughly measure strong earthquake shaking at ground sites, in buildings and critical structures; and, automatically broadcast information when a significant earthquake occurs, for immediate assessment of its impact. The 130-ANSS/02 advanced communications features include TCP/IP over Ethernet and Asynchronous Serial. Setup and control is accomplished with either a Palm-OS device running PFC_130 or a desktop computer running RTI. An LCD continuously displays State-Of-Health and status information.

The 130-SM is the same as the 130-ANSS/02 plus it includes an optional internal V.90 modem for event trigger and alarm notification and battery charger for an external or optional internal lead-acid battery. The size of the 130-SM case allows the installation of an internal battery to provide backup power for more than 48 hours. The 130-SM provides 3 relay closure contacts for external alarm notification. The relay closure parameters are user selectable. The 130-SM advanced communications features include TCP/IP over Ethernet. The command/control interface allows the user to program and examine the instrument’s operating parameters and performs important diagnostic functions.

The 130-SMA is identical to the 130-SM with two exceptions: the three-channel 24-bit A-D converter has typical dynamic range of more than 118 dB, and the 130-SMA has a different oscillator for internal time keeping.
