PRESS RELEASE
We are pleased to announce that on August 15, 2005 REF TEK, through its exclusive representative in China Laurel Industrial Company (Laurel), signed a contract with China Earthquake Administration (CEA) to provide 600 High Resolution Seismic Recorders, Model 130B-01/3, for mobile seismic arrays to be installed throughout China.
China is a country with high seismic activity and natural hazards. Notable earthquakes which occurred in the 20th century such as Kansu (16 December, 1920), Nanshan (22 May, 1927), and Tangshan (27 July, 1976), caused the death of more than 650,000 people and overall damage in hundreds of million of US dollars. More than 373 earthquakes with magnitude >6.0 occurred in mainland of China in the 20th century. The China Earthquake Administration was appointed to deploy modern technology for hazard and risk mitigation in the People's Republic of China. In the years 2005 to 2007 the China Digital Seismic Network (CDSN) requiring equipment worth of 2.6 billion yuan (~330 million US Dollars) will be deployed to upgrade the existing seismic monitoring system for natural hazards' mitigation, crustal studies, and better understanding of the continental earthquake's mechanisms.
The mobile arrays, consisting of 600 stations are part of the CDSN. The first 200 stations, consisting of the High Resolution Broadband Seismic Recorder, model 130B-01/3, 130-GPS/01, Compact Flash Disk (two 1 GB each per Recorder totaling 2 GB), and auxiliary cables will be shipped to the CEA at the end of December. The remaining recorders will be delivered to the end-user by the end of April, 2006.
Following the CEA order, the University of Beijing placed an order for 24 stations with the same hardware configuration. In addition, each recorder will be equipped with the Sensor Control Board, P/N RT527. |
